Frequently asked questions

How Does Dissertation Coaching Work?
When you book a dissertation coaching package, you will receive a number of one-on-one virtual sessions, in which we will discuss your progress and problems and formulate workable solutions, techniques, and strategies.

You will also have the ability to reach out 24/7 for help.

To help you stay on track and productive, you will receive written summaries of our sessions via a dedicated project management board, which will include goals, action-items, and strategies targeted to your project.

Finally, you will have the opportunity to request or purchase additional written feedback on and editing of your manuscript drafts, including corrections to your grammar, expression, formatting, referencing, and citations (depending on the package you book)
Is working with a dissertation coach “cheating”?
Absolutely not. Dissertation coaching is a recognized and validated form of support, just like any other form of coaching - from football coaching to career coaching. Working with a dissertation coach is not construed as cheating or unfair practice by the majority of institutions, although you should check with your institution’s academic integrity office if you are at all unsure. A reputable dissertation coach will not undertake any original writing or research for you, meaning that your dissertation will remain 100% your own, original work.
Will you help me deal with plagiarism?
Good dissertation coaching is all about teaching you the skills you need to succeed in your degree and beyond. I will teach you the strong research skills and citation techniques you need to avoid accidental plagiarism, as well as flagging any potential plagiarism issues before they can become a problem. I also offer plagiarism reports as an add-on service, available for an additional fee.
What academic formatting styles do you support?
I support dissertations written in a number of academic styles, including APA, Chicago, Turabian, MLA, and MHRA. As a trained academic editor, I am able to advise on both document layout and referencing/citations in these styles. Academic editing in these styles is available as an add-on service, for an additional fee.
Can you help with any field of research?
Definitely. Over the years, I have coached students in all fields and areas of research, from biology, political science, and philosophy to hospitality studies, leadership and management studies, and anthropology. I can support students working with both qualitative and quantitative data, as well as mixed-methods studies and textual analyses. I also have a research specialism in children’s literature, so if you work in the field of children’s studies, I can offer specialized content support. Please note, however, that the coaching I provide for general academic writing and research techniques - I cannot provide subject-content tuition (except in children’s literature studies)!
Are you qualified to help me?
Absolutely! I hold a PhD from the University of Wales, as well as a teaching qualification; I have taught academic writing for many years, have trained as an academic editor, and have supervised dissertation students across many fields throughout my career. I am also a published academic with a strong research profile in my field.
What level of support will I get?
You can choose the level of dissertation coaching support that suits you best by selecting one of my packages or services. From one-off problems to full-semester programs, I am happy to help you as much or as little as you like. Sessions are completely virtual, so even though I am based in northeastern PA, I can help you no matter where in the world you are based.
Can I try dissertation coaching out before I commit?
Sure! Just use one of the “Book a Back-on-Track Session” buttons anywhere on the site to book a free, no-obligation, 30-minute session with me and try out my services for yourself. We’ll start by diagnosing where you are stuck and creating a three-step “back-on-track” action plan to get you moving forward again. You can also ask any questions you might have about how coaching can help you from there on out.
What if coaching is not for me?
If you are not convinced by your Back-on-Track session, there is no obligation to book further sessions. First-time students can also withdraw from a paid package after the first paid session, no questions asked, with my full money-back guarantee.
How can I pay for my coaching package?
Once you’ve decided to book a package, you’ll be sent a payment link. You’ll have the option to pay in full or in 4 equal interest-free installments using the Klarna payment service.
How do payment plans work?
You can pay for any of my packages with a payment plan of 4 equal interest-free installments paid every 2 weeks. To do this, choose the "Klarna" option on the payment page. You will be asked to input your name and geographical region. Then, you'll be redirected to the Klarna website to set up an account (you'll be asked to set up phone code verification and confirm your birthdate and physical address, then agree to the Klarna terms and conditions). Once you have set up your Klarna account, you'll be able to view your payment plan, enter card details, and complete your purchase. You'll only need to complete the account set-up process once; all future payment plans will be easy - just choose Klarna at checkout! You can find out more about Klarna at their website.
How do I know which package is right for me?
Each of my services represents a different level of support. You should choose the package that best represents the level of support you need. If you’re not sure which package is right for you, book a Back-on-Track session – I’ll talk through your needs and goals with you and help you choose the package that’s right for you!
What does a typical dissertation coaching session look like?
Sessions are conducted virtually, via the Zoom platform, and range in length depending on your needs and the service you have booked. When you schedule any session, you will be sent a Zoom link and password for access to a secure online Zoom session. If you need to go over the allotted time for the session, no problem - so long as I have availability, we’ll keep working until you are happy with your progress, at no extra cost to you. And, if you’re feeling burned out or in a hurry, shorter sessions are also absolutely fine.
Do you help all types of graduate student?
Absolutely! I offer dissertation help to ALL students, whether you are an undergraduate, masters, or PhD student, just starting out or almost ready for your oral defense, and in any field of expertise. Still not sure? Book a Back-on-Track session to find out how I can help you.
