    FAQs

    How Does Dissertation Coaching Work?

When you book a dissertation coaching package, you will receive a number of one-on-one virtual sessions of up to one hour at a time, in which we will discuss your progress and problems and formulate workable solutions, techniques, and strategies. You will also have the ability to reach out via Slack (an instant messaging platform) in your own private channel, 24/7, for more urgent help or feedback. To help you stay on track and productive, you will receive written summaries of our sessions, which will include goals, action-items, and strategies targeted to your project. Finally, you will have the opportunity to request written feedback on and editing of your manuscript drafts, including corrections to your grammar, expression, formatting, referencing, and citations (depending on the package you book).

Is working with a dissertation coach “cheating”?

Absolutely not. Dissertation coaching is a recognized and validated form of support, just like any other form of coaching – from football coaching to career coaching. Working with a dissertation coach is not construed as cheating or unfair practice by the majority of institutions, although you should check with your institution’s academic integrity office if you are at all unsure. A reputable dissertation coach will not undertake any original writing or research for you, meaning that your dissertation will remain 100% your own, original work.

What academic formatting styles do you support?

I support and can edit dissertations written in a number of academic styles, including APA, Chicago, Turabian, MLA, and MHRA. As a trained academic editor, I am able to advise on both document layout and referencing/citations in these styles. If you book the “Fairy Godmother” or “Drill Sergeant” coaching package, document copyediting in these styles is included – so I will do the hard work for you!

Can you help with any field of research?

Definitely. Over the years, I have coached students in all fields and areas of research, from biology, political science, and philosophy to hospitality studies, leadership and management studies, and anthropology. I can support students working with both qualitative and quantitative data, as well as mixed-methods studies and textual analyses. I also have a research specialism in children’s literature, so if you work in the field of children’s studies, I can also offer specialized content support. Please note, however, that I cannot provide subject-content tuition (unless you work in the field of children’s studies)!

Are you qualified to help me?

Absolutely! I hold a PhD from the University of Wales, as well as a teaching qualification; I have taught academic writing for many years, have trained as an academic editor, and have supervised dissertation students across many fields throughout my career. I am also a published academic with a strong research profile in my field.

What level of support will I get?

You can choose the level of support that suits you best by selecting one of my packages. From one-off problems to full-semester programs, I am happy to help you as much or as little as you like. Sessions are completely virtual, so even though I am based in northeastern PA, I can help you no matter where in the world you are based.

Can I try coaching out before I commit?

Sure! Just use one of the “Book Your Free Session buttons anywhere on the page to book a free, no-obligation, 30-minute session with me and try out my services for yourself.

What if coaching is not for me?

If you are not convinced by your free first session, there is no obligation to book further paid sessions. You can also withdraw from a paid package at any time, no questions asked, with my full money-back guarantee.

How can I pay for my package?

Once you’ve decided to book a package, you’ll be sent an invoice via PayPal. You won’t need a PayPal account to pay – any credit card will work! You can also choose to pay in increments – just ask!

How do I know which package is right for me?

Each of my packages represents a different level of support. You should choose the package that best represents the level of support you need. If you’re not sure which package is right for you, book a free 30-minute consultation – I’ll talk through your needs and goals with you and help you choose the package that’s right for you!

What does a typical coaching session look like?

A typical session in any of my packages is 1 hour long, conducted via Zoom; you will need a computer or phone equipped with a camera and microphone. When you schedule any session, you will be sent a Zoom link and password for access to a secure online Zoom session. Sessions can last for up to one hour at a time, and you can use them in whatever manner you find most helpful – from discussing your progress and mapping objectives, to receiving tuition in research strategies or even just venting about problems and frustrations (and getting some helpful advice and motivation in return!). And, if you’re feeling burned out or in a hurry, shorter sessions are also absolutely fine.

Do you help all types of graduate student?

Absolutely! I offer dissertation help to ALL students, whether you are an undergraduate, masters, or PhD student, just starting out or almost ready for your oral defense, and in any field of expertise. Still not sure? Book a free session to find out how I can help you.

I would like help, but my budget is tight. Can I afford this?

Yes! Think about it – the cost of a single session with me is less than the price of a romantic dinner for two, a new textbook, or a new pair of shoes. In return, you get the peace of mind of knowing you are one step closer to successfully finishing your very expensive degree. That’s a bargain, right?

What if this service is not for me?

Your first session is 100% free. Try me out and see what I can do to make your dissertation path a little bit easier. For later paid sessions, I offer a money-back guarantee – no questions asked.
